Mystery Plant – Elephant Ears

Posted on February 26, 2011

Question: Can you identify this clearanced plant? It has a spent spathe and spadix with a large pod at the base of the spathe. The leaves are ridged, and the veins quite prominent. The new leaves tend to drip water for days as they slowly unfurl. Thanks, Rebecca

Elephant Ear's

Answer: Hello Rebecca – the large plant in the center is an Elephant’s ear (botanically the genus is Alocasia and most likely the species Alocasia amazonica) Hope this helps. Peter
